Mnemosonic blends mnemonic — the art of remembering, and sonic — the design of soundscapes, to explore how memory lingers beyond visual through sound.

A music box of memories, offering the chance to reconnect with your own past through the soundscapes of others.

The Mnemosonic Fluxus Box isn't just about recalling memories — it's about transforming visual representations of memory, like texts or photographs, into soundscapes that preserve and evoke
past experiences.

ABOUT THE EXPERIENTIAL PROTOTYPE:
The Mnemosonic Box is an interactive, multisensory object designed to trigger autobiographical memory recall through audio-visual experiences. Activated by touch, each square box contains embedded soundscapes that emerge when users interact with the objects' surfaces.

By blending the tactile with the auditory, the box encourages users to reconnect with memories in a more visceral, emotional way. It highlights the role of sound textures in memory recollection and provides an alternative method of experiencing nostalgia, reflection, and emotional grounding in an increasingly digital world.

CURATED SOUNDSCAPES TRACKS

  • TRACK 001 — classical music

Soft, intricate melodies float in the air — the tender keys of Clayderman, the grandeur of Beethoven, the playful wit of Mozart, the wistful charm of Beauty and the Beast. In many childhood homes, these sounds stitched invisible threads between parent and child — lullabies that carried love and comfort.

  • TRACK 002 — play

The metallic squeak of swings, the joyful shrieks of children mid-flight, sneakers scuffing against gravel — a symphony of pure, unfiltered joy. These sounds capture fleeting moments of innocence: when time stretched infinitely, and friendships were formed over shared laughters.

  • TRACK 003 — tintinnabulation

Delicate, scattered notes of bells weave through the ai. Each chime shivers with memories half-remembered. It is the music of chance encounters — sounds that shimmer for a moment, then dissolve into silence, leaving only the echo of something beautiful and just out of reach.

  • TRACK 004 — sizzles

A crackle of fire, a chorus of sizzling woks, the warm murmur of old Chinese songs playing from a radio perched precariously on a counter. The kitchen — a living memory. Here, stories are seasoned into every dish; here, love is expressed through recipes whispered down generations. This soundscape captures the intimacy of family life: the hurried clatter of chopsticks, the fragrance of soy and ginger, the laughter between calls for dinner, all wrapped in the comfort of home.

  • TRACK 005 — barks

The clang of a metal gate, the distant bark of a dog, the soft, mechanical sigh of elevators. These are the everyday rhythms of a neighborhood breathing — sounds so familiar they are almost invisible, yet deeply woven into our sense of belonging. Each noise is a thread: morning greetings, daily routines, the quiet assurance that we are surrounded by lives intertwining with ours, just beyond our doorsteps.

  • TRACK 006 — 2000s retro games

Pixelated explosions, whimsical soundtracks, the static buzz of a digital world unfolding. These are the sounds of Plants vs. Zombies battles waged on school nights, MapleStory adventures with distant online friends, days where fantasy and reality blurred across glowing screens. A soundscape of youth, of small victories and endless possibilities, capturing an era when imagination found new homes inside pixelated worlds.

  • TRACK 007 — cheers

A sudden burst of clapping, the soaring crescendo of cheers, the laughter that follows like a wave. Birthdays, graduations, unexpected victories — this soundscape gathers moments when joy felt too big for one body to hold. Celebrations where voices rose together, where being seen, known, and loved could be heard in every shout and song. These sounds preserve fleeting highs that linger long after the candles are blown out.

  • TRACK 008 — honks

The low hum of engines, impatient horns blaring, the rhythmic rumble of passing buses — the restless heartbeat of a city alive with ambition. In these sounds live dreams chased between skyscrapers, chance encounters at traffic lights, late-night returns on quiet streets. It is the chaotic, magnetic soundtrack of urban life — each noise a small reminder that the city breathes alongside us.

  • TRACK 009 — mourns

Soft, haunting hymns intertwine with the slow, solemn toll of bells. Voices crack under the weight of loss, yet somewhere within, a quiet strength stirs. This soundscape captures the sacred stillness of mourning — a space where time slows, memories crystallize, and love speaks loudest in silence. It reminds us that even farewells are stitched with tenderness, and that every end carries the echo of deep, enduring bonds.

This publication explains the concept, how the box works, and shares a curated diary of personal stories from youths, each mapped to nine symbolic objects. Reflective and intimate, it invites readers to rediscover sound as a vessel for memory — an emotional thread connecting individual moments to a shared human experience, offering an emotional bridge between personal histories and collective experiences.
